Steps to follow for a medical abortion

First, the doctor will perform a medical evaluation and an ultrasound during your appointment. If everything is fine, he will then explain the medical abortion method to you in detail.

Once the procedure has been explained and you have signed the consent form, you will be given the abortion pill Mifepristone to take at the clinic. This medication will terminate the pregnancy. Furthermore, this medication will not prevent you from carrying on with your normal life at home or at work.

Two days later, at home, you will need to insert the Misoprostol tablets into your vagina. This medication will cause bleeding and pain to expel the pregnancy. The effect will begin about two hours after inserting the tablets. The bleeding and pain may last for a few hours (up to six hours), but the pain will then lessen. However, the bleeding may last up to 10 days with light spotting.

One week later, you will need to return to the clinic for a follow-up ultrasound to ensure everything has gone well and to verify that the abortion has been completed.

If everything is okay, a second routine check-up is scheduled.
